Nina van Essen (1994), graduated summa cum laude with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in May 2016. She currently studies with Sasja Hunnego at the Dutch National Opera Academy. For this she received a scholarship from the Miluška Duffková foundation. In the context of an Erasmus Exchange she studied in France, Lyon at the C.N.S.M.D (2014-2015) where she worked with singing teachers Isabelle Germain, Francoise Pollet and coach Fabrice Boulanger. Before she began her Bachelor studies she followed a Young Talent program at the school for Young Talent in The Hague. Nina works closely with pianist Harimada Kusuma with whom she in 2013 recorded her first solo CD.

Master classes/summer courses she followed from: Meinard Kraak Alain Garichot, Ilmo Ranta, Marjan Kuiper, Angelika Kirchschlager, Maurice Lammerts van Bueren, Nadine Secunde, Neil Semer, Roberta Cunningham, Claron McFadden, Ira Siff and Anna Bonitatibus. As a soloist Nina worked together with the Series ‘’Grote Zangers’’ (pre-program in Muziekgebouw a/h IJ), Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, Krashna Musika (led by Ruben de Grauw), ASKO Schönberg ensemble (led by Reinbert de Leeuw) SKA (led by Servaas Schreuders), De Nederlandse Opera (Manon Lescaut, Madrigalist 2017 o.l.v Alexander Joel) Salone Dell’Opera, Kamerbreed Klassiek and gave concerts in halls like Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, Tivoli Vredenburg and De Doelen.

January 2017 Nina sang “Madame de la Haltière’’ from the opera Cendrillon by Jules Massenet led by
Walter Althammer and Residentie Orchestra. Upcoming Roles for Nina are: ”Hänsel‘ from Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck (led by Antony Hermus and NJO) , ”Masha” from Moscow Cheryomushki by Dimitri Shostakovich (Opéra Louise, led by Jérome Kuhn), ”Lucretia” from Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten (led by Karel Deseure) and ”Dorabella” from Cosi Fan Tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
