Nina van Essen is currently part of the ensemble of Staatsoper Hannover. In 2018 she graduated cum laude from the Dutch National Opera Academy. Her repertoire consists of opera, contemporary, oratorio and lied by various composers.

Nina van Essen (1994), is part of the Staatsoper Hannover since 2019. Some of her roles performed there are; Hänsel from Hänsel und Gretel by E.Humperdinck, Rosina from Barbiere di Siviglia by G.Rossini, Mercédès from G.Bizets Carmen, Ruggiero from Händels Alcina, Branghien from Frank Martin’s “le vin Herbé”, Piacere from Händels “il Trionfo”, Cherubino and Dorabella from Mozarts classics Le nozze di Figaro and Cosi fan tutte. As a guest Nina also performs regularly in other opera houses, for example Hänsel at Oper Leipzig.

Her extensive concert repertoire includes Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, and orchestral song cycles such as Les nuits d’été de Berlioz and Ravel’s Trois poèmes de Stephane Mallarmé.
Masterclasses Nina followed from, among others, Meinard Kraak, Alain Garichot, Angelika Kirchschlager, Nadine Secunde, Neil Semer, Claron McFadden, Ira Siff, Anna Bonitatibus and Pietro Spagnoli.
In the International Vocalist competition in ‘s-Hertogenbosch Nina recently won the audience prize, the Annett Andriessen concert prize (concert in Ningbo/China) and two engagements amongst others with the Residentie Orchestra. Nina was also one of the finalist in de Otto Edelmann Competition in Vienna, Austria in February 2019.
Nina graduated from the Dutch National Opera Academy in 2018. During this program Nina was taught by Sasja Hunnego. For this program she received a scholarship from the Miluška Duffková foundation. In the context of an Erasmus Exchange she studied in France, Lyon at the C.N.S.M.D (2014-2015), where she worked with singing teacher Francoise Pollet. Before Nina began her Bachelor studies at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she graduated with distinction magna cum laude, she followed a Young Talent program at the school for Young Talent also in The Hague.
Since 2017, Nina is represented by Artista International, Franziska Hunke and mainly works with vocal teacher Neil Semer.
